Hello there!

Hello!

I started a blog today because it is something I have been wanting to do for a while.  I love to read; I read a lot of books and I love discussing about the books I have read.  What better way to chat and get someone else's opinion, and some other recommendations, then to begin a blog.  I know there is a tone of blogs out there about all sorts of books, and also for writing, but why not throw my hat in the mix?  I work a 9-5 job to pay the bills, but reading and writing is my passion, hopefully, someday I will be able to call myself an author. I am always thinking about the next book I am going to read, or about another story I will be writing (I am currently writing three stories by the way).  So again, I would like to become a part of this community of storytellers.

Okay, here I go...

The book I recently just finished reading is called The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo.  I bought this book as an impulse buy some time ago.  I started to read and I couldn't put it down.  I had to stop myself for a while because I did not want to finish too quickly.  I ended up not going back to it for more than a few months.  I always kept the book out in my line out sight just staring it down waiting for the day for me to return to Lucy and Gabe.  I finished the book in three days, and I love, love, loved it!

The story is about Lucy and Gabe who meet in a class at Columbia University in New York.  The story goes back and forth between the past and present through Lucys' eyes.  Gabe and Lucy meet on September 11th and that day changed them as it did for all of us.  The two of them go back to Gabes' apartment and watch everything around them fall to crumbles.  They share a kiss on the roof but then go their separate ways.  They meet again after they graduate and begin dating.  They fall in love and move in together; Lucy becomes a producer for a for a television network for children's shows, and Gabe becomes a photojournalist.  Everything seems to be going smoothly until Gabe leaves to work in the Middle East.  Lucy stays in New York trying to mend her broken heart and continues on with her career.  She then meets Darren and they begin dating and eventually get married and have two children.

Lucy never gets over Gabe, he is her true love.  She loves Darren and the life they built together, but she never gave her whole heart to him.  I don't want to give too much away, but this story is wonderfully written my Santopolo.  Each character has a flaw, but they are not bad people.  Lucy is moving forward with Darren and their children, but her feelings for Gabe have always kept her back.  Gabe is desperately trying to change the world with his lens but is emotionally relying on Lucy for support.  Darren loves Lucy and wants to give her a wonderful happily ever afterlife, but he is missing who she really is.  Lucy and Gabe remain in contact throughout the years, but in my perspective, it has been a love affair through distance.  There was no physical love, but more emotional.  Lucy saved a part of herself for Gabe and he as well.

The story is about the choices we make in life and how we live with the path we have chosen.  How long can a person live a life they did not necessarily want to have?  Life can go by so fast, everything that a person thought they wanted, thought was important at the time, can change in such a big way as one gets older.  Life can change in an instant, that is what 9/11 taught us, as well as other current events that are happening all around us.  Go after what you want, and hope that it is making some difference in the world, but it will be even better if you have the one person who gets it, who gets you, standing next to you and supporting one another.

Again, I am trying not to give too much away, but if you are wanting a good read with romance, read this book!  I will warn you to have to tissues on hand.  I hope this blog gives you a good idea of what the story is about.  I hope I haven't given too much away, but this story is so worth the read and the emotions that come along with every page.
